Men's basketball defeats Guilford for key ODAC win

Lynchburg, Va. –  The Lynchburg College men's basketball split the season series against as they defeated the Quakers, 79-73, on Wednesday night.

The Hornets received a superb effort from senior forward Logan Seacrist (Fredericksburg, Va.) as he led the game in scoring with 19 points while adding four rebounds and two assists. Sophomore guard Chance Greene (Creedmoor, N.C) followed the scoring for the Hornets as he dropped 18 points, 10 of which came from the free throw line, while dishing out four assists. Junior guard Devante' Young (Charlotte, N.C.) lead the Hornets with seven rebounds and five assists. Junior Jesse Case (Leesburg, Va.) and freshman Reggie Davis (Greensboro, N.C.) each scored nine points.

The Quakers were led in scoring by junior forward Carson Long as he scored 17 points and snagged 17 rebounds to achieve the double-double. Senior guard Jarrod Rogers collected 11 assists in a game high 37 minutes for the Quakers of Guilford.

The Hornets were outrebounded by the Quakers, 48-31, but the telling statistic was at the free throw line, as Lynchburg converted 26 of 35 shots while the Quakers went 11-for-13.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Hornets jumped all over Guilford early as they gained a 25-12 advantage ten minutes into the opening half.

  • Seacrist scored 13 of his game high 19 points in the first half to help lead Lynchburg to a 45-32 halftime lead.

  • Lynchburg never allowed Guilford to get within eight points until 6:19 left in the second half where Guilford's Corey Clemens drilled a three to cut the Lynchburg lead to 62-56.

  • Green converted seven of eight free throws with 1:15 left to go in regulation to help secure the win for the Hornets.

 

LOOKING AHEAD

The Hornets will play host to Bridgewater on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. for Senior Day in the last ODAC matchup of the regular season. A win will give Lynchburg the No. 7 seed in the upcoming conference tournament, while a loss would give LC the No. 8 seed. With either result, Lynchburg will play host in the first round of the ODAC tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 20 against an opponent to be determined.
