Men's lacrosse defeats Elizabethtown

Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg men's lacrosse team collected their second win of the season Saturday with a 21-7 victory against the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown.

Eleven Hornets were able to contribute goals to the win with junior attackman Eric Lombardo (Franklin Park, N.J.) leading the way with a career-high seven goals to go with two assists. Junior attackman Logan Adams (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) added another three goals for the Hornets and one assist. Junior face-off man Bo Delaney (Marstons Mills, Mass.) led the team with seven ground balls.

Additional scoring Hornets included a pair of scores from senior attackman Shayne O'Brien (Duxbury, Mass.) and sophomore attackman Trammel Robinson (Memphis, Tenn.). A.J. Nieves (Centreville, Va.), Colin Dean (Havre de Grace, Md.), Chase Boyer (Richmond, Va.), Owen Thoreck (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), Riley Schmidt (Catonsville, Md.), Brooks Poli (Downington, Pa.), and Ryan Kardux (Wayne, N.J.).

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Lynchburg wasted no time in the first quarter, taking a four-point lead over the Blue Jays in the first 15 minutes. Schmidt scored with one second left in the quarter to boost the Hornets' momentum.

  • The Hornets controlled the second quarter, scoring three consecutive points in the span of a minute and a half to give Lynchburg a comfortable 11-2 advantage at halftime.

  • Late in the third quarter, the Hornets rallied up five goals, three of which come from Lombardo. Elizabethtown attempted to comeback after back to back goals in the last 40 seconds, bringing the score to 16-4.

  • Robinson highlighted the fourth for Lynchburg with his first two goals of the season.

 

LOOKING AHEAD

The Hornets will travel to Owings Mills, Md., to participate in the Mustang Classic next weekend. Lynchburg will face top-ranked RIT on Friday March 16 at 3 p.m. before squaring off with Nazareth on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
