Box Score Salem, Va. -- The Lynchburg men's lacrosse team traveled to face No. 18 Roanoke Saturday night and fell just short to the Maroons by a final score of 13-11 in the matchup of Old Dominion Athletic Conference heavyweights.
Senior attackman Colin McGuire (Odenton, Md.) and sophomore attackman Trammel Robinson (Memphis, Tenn.) led the Hornets, contributing three goals each. Junior midfielder Nick Willertz (Severn, Md.) picked up four ground balls, one goal, and one assist. Senior goalie CJ Santora (Tewksbury, Mass.) had 13 saves in the net.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first quarter proved to be an even matchup. Willertz scored the first goal for the Hornets, assisted by junior midfielder Rivington Lambert (Lake Wylie, S.C.). Freshman midfielder Riley Schmidt (Catonsville, Md.) and junior attackman Logan Adams (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) each scored unassisted goals for Lynchburg, and the two teams ended the first quarter tied, 3-3.

The Maroons took the lead in the second quarter, scoring five more goals as Lynchburg only managed one, by Schmidt and assisted by senior midfielder Ryan Kardux (Wayne, N.J.).

Entering the third quarter behind 8-4, Lynchburg managed to close the gap. Three of Lynchburg's five goals in the quarter came from McGuire, and the Hornets trailed 10-9 with 15 minutes to play.

In the fourth quarter, Roanoke scored the first two goals. Robinson netted a pair in the late going, but Lynchburg couldn't finish the comeback.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Hornets will head back home for a pair of games next weekend. Lynchburg will play host to Stevenson on Friday, April 6 at 7 p.m. and will turn around for another home game, Saturday, April 7 against ODAC foe Guilford, also at 7 p.m. The Hornets and Quakers will celebrate HEADstrong Awareness Month in the contest.
