Strong offense brings men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah

Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team displayed a strong offense, which led the home team to a 21-3 victory over the Hornets of Shenandoah University Wednesday night on Shellenberger Field.

Freshman attackman Owen Thoreck (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and junior attackman Evan Lombardo (Franklin Park, N.J.) each led the Lynchburg Hornets with three goals. Lombardo is currently leading the the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with 56 goals.

Junior attackman Logan Adams (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) collected two goals and two assists on the field, as did freshman attackman Mason Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.). Junior face-off specialist Bo Delaney (Marston Mills, Mass.) racked up an impressive eight ground balls, winning 11 of the 15 face-offs he took, and scored one goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Lynchburg created a comfortable seven-point lead in the first quarter. Adams scored his two goals with an assist from sophomore attackman Trammel Robinson (Memphis, Tenn.). Senior midfielder Colin McGuire (Odenton, Md.) ended the quarter with his second unassisted goal in the last 12 seconds bringing LC up 8-1.

  • Lynchburg's defense shut down Shenandoah in the second and third quarters, holding the visitors scoreless in the 30-minute span. Senior goalie CJ Santora (Tewksbury, Mass.) allowed just one goal on the night. Sophomore midfielder Breton Penney (Halifax, Nova Scotia, CANADA) collected two goals in the second quarter with an assist from Smith.

  • Thoreck scored the only two goals in the third quarter, one on another assist from Smith. Lynchburg held a 17-1 lead going into the fourth quarter.

  • LC added another four goals in the last quarter to secure the 21-3 conference win.

 

LOOKING AHEAD

Lynchburg will travel Saturday, April 28 to face Hampden-Sydney at 4 p.m. for the last ODAC matchup of the regular season.
