Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- Senior forward Molly Shephard (Charlottesville, Va.) became the 11th player in University of Lynchburg women's basketball history to cross the 1,000-career point threshold Saturday in the Hornets' 77-65 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win over Roanoke.
Shephard scored a game-high 21 points for Lynchburg to go with nine rebounds and two blocks. She scored her 1,000th point on a free throw with 24 seconds to go, her 19th point of the game.
Freshman forward Erin Green (Poolesville, Md.) added 20 points and five rebounds for Lynchburg.
Ayanna Scarborough led Roanoke with a 15-point, seven-rebound effort off the bench. The Maroons never led in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Green opened the game with a 3-pointer just 47 seconds in, and Lynchburg opened up a narrow lead throughout the period. The Hornets hit three of the four 3s they took in the first.

Roanoke cut the lead to 26-24 with 6:10 until halftime, but Lynchburg finished the half on a 17-2 run to take control of the game. Freshmen scored 13 of the 17 points in the barrage.

Shephard kept the momentum with Lynchburg in the third, scoring eight points to fend off a Roanoke run.

Green hit a trio of 3-pointers early in the fourth, but the Maroons continued to cut into the deficit in the final chapter, shrinking it to nine, 70-61, with 4:22 to play. Lynchburg again responded, though, with several defensive stops and the final five points of the game, all courtesy Shephard.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Hornets will look to run their win streak to five Wednesday, Jan. 30 with a 7 p.m. tip against Emory & Henry. The Wasps, who received votes in the latest D3hoops.com top 25 poll, took the first meeting between the two teams, 63-59, Jan. 12 in Emory.
