Box Score Danville, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's basketball team fell Tuesday, 70-39, in the season's road opener at Averett.
Maggie Quarles led the Lynchburg effort with 12 points and a career-high nine rebounds, while Abby Oguich chipped in a career-best 11 points.
Neither was enough to overcome Lynchburg's cold shooting. The Hornets (1-1) shot just 29 percent from the field in the game (17-for-58), did not make a 3-point attempt, and were just 5-for-20 from the free throw line.
Brooke Carthon led Averett (1-1) with 18 points.
Lynchburg's women's basketball team will be back in action this weekend at Emory University's Holiday Inn Tip-Off Classic. The Hornets will square off with Emory U. Friday at 6 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m. contest Saturday with Colorado College. All games will be played at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga., due to Emory U. playing host in the NCAA Division III volleyball tournament.
