Box Score Ferrum, Va. -- Despite a 28-point effort from senior Chance Greene, the University of Lynchburg men's basketball team fell to Ferrum, 78-73, on the road Wednesday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.
The Hornets (5-4, 1-1 ODAC) were down early in the first half after an immediate 3-point shot from Ferrum's Kalip Jones. Lynchburg came back to take a 12-7 advantage at the 15:48 mark. The five-point lead was their largest lead of the night as it remained a close contest throughout.
After a Luke Romeo 3-pointer put Lynchburg up 19-18 with 11:53 left in the first half, the Panthers (3-4, 1-1) took a 21-19 lead and led for the remainder of the first half. The Hornets went into intermission down, 42-33.
After the break the Hornets began to comeback, cutting down the Panther lead. With 13:22 left in regulation, Greene hit a 3-pointer to bring the Lynchburg deficit down to eight as the Panthers led 58-50.
In the final minute of the contest, the Hornets were down 72-68. Junior Reggie Davis attempted a 3-pointer to cut the lead to one but came up short. Junior T.C. Thacker managed to grab the rebound and gave it back to Davis, who knocked down a jumper to put the Hornets within two, 72-70.
Ferrum sank a 3-pointer with 23 seconds left to make it a two-score game and put the game out of reach.
The Lynchburg men's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 7 as the Hornets take on the Royals of Eastern Mennonite with tip-off slated for 2 p.m.
