Box Score Lancaster, Pa. -- The No. 17-ranked University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team earned its first win of the season, 11-8, Saturday afternoon over No. 19 Franklin & Marshall.
Senior attackman Evan Lombardo (Franklin Park, N.J.) scored six goals, his fourth-career game with six or more scores.
Junior midfielder Kevin Rogers (Leesburg, Va.) collected one goal and two assists, while senior attackman Logan Adams (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) racked up a career-high six assists. Senior midfielder Craig Koester (Wildwood, Mo.) had a good day and went 13-for-22 at the faceoff.
Senior goalie Patrick Cornelius (Potomac, Md.) saved 11 of the 19 shots that came his way.
Lynchburg trailed 4-3 at the half before exploding for eight second-half goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Franklin & Marshall scored early, but Lombardo answered back with a goal assisted by junior midfielder Colin Dean (Havre de Grace, Md.) to put Lynchburg on the board. The first quarter ended with a 1-1 tie.

The Diplomats got another jump on Lynchburg in the second quarter, scoring the next three goals. Even with scores from Rogers and Lombardo, both assisted by Adams, the Hornets trailed 4-3 at the half.

Lombardo was responsible for three of the five Lynchburg goals in the third, as the Hornets assumed an 8-6 lead. Senior attackman Andrew Thomas (Roswell, Ga.) and sophomore midfielder Clayton Jones (Lynchburg, Va.) also collected goals.

Sophomore midfielder A.J. Nieves (Centreville, Va.), Dean, and Lombardo added Lynchburg's three goals in the final period to seal the victory.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Hornets be back home Saturday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. to face the Cabrini Cavaliers on Shellenberger Field.
