Box Score Owings Mills, Md. -- With three goals in the final 3 minutes, the 19th-ranked University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team earned a come-from-behind road win over No. 20 Stevenson, 11-9, Friday night on the opening day of the Mustang Classic.
Senior midfielder Rivington Lambert (Lake Wylie, S.C.) scored for the Hornets with 2:10 to play to tie the game, 9-9, and junior attackman Trammel Robinson (Memphis, Tenn.) scored the go-ahead goal with 1:32 remaining.
Junior midfielder Kevin Rogers (Leesburg, Va.) led Lynchburg's offense with three goals and an assist, while junior defender Tyler Gallagher (Palmyra, Pa.) anchored the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Senior goalie Patrick Cornelius (Potomac, Md.) saved 10 of the 19 shots that came his way.
Lynchburg won the game despite trailing from midway through the second quarter until late in the fourth but survived all four man-down situations in the contest without allowing a goal. The Hornets also overcame a 6-for-24 deficit at the faceoff.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets drew first blood just a minute into the contest on the first of Rogers' three goals. Stevenson scored twice more in the period, the second with 22 ticks on the clock, to take the lead.

Stevenson scored four straight goals in the second to take a 6-2 lead, but Lynchburg trimmed it to 6-4 at halftime after late goals from Rogers and senior attackman Andrew Thomas (Roswell, Ga.).

Trailing 8-4 late in the third period, senior attackman Evan Lombardo (Franklin Park, N.J.) netted the first of his two scores to set Lynchburg on a 4-0 run. Senior midfielder Colin Dean (Havre de Grace, Md.) scored twice in the barrage, and Lombardo added his second goal as well, to tie the game, 8-8, with 4:41 to play.

After the Mustangs retook the lead at the 3:40 mark, Lambert, Robinson, and Rogers scored the final three goals to seal the Hornet victory.
LOOKING AHEAD
Lynchburg will wrap up the weekend Saturday at the Mustang Classic against No. 7-ranked and defending national champion Wesleyan (Conn.) at 6:15 p.m.
