Box Score York, Pa. -- The University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team suffered a heartbreaking 12-11 loss to the No. 6-ranked York College Spartans Saturday afternoon on the road.
Senior attackman Evan Lombardo (Franklin Park, NJ) scored four of the Hornets' goals and earned two assists. Junior midfielder Kevin Rogers (Leesburg, Va.) collected another three goals, two assists, and two ground balls. Junior attackman Colin Dean (Havre de Grace, Md.) and senior attackman Andrew Thomas (Roswell, Ga.) also earned two goals each for the Hornets.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Lynchburg got on the board early in the first quarter with an unassisted goal by Rogers.

Tied at 3-3, Lombardo ended the quarter with a goal assisted by Thomas and gave Lynchburg the edge after 15 minutes.

The Hornets pushed out a 8-4 lead midway through the second quarter anoter goal by Lombardo, but York managed to push back and picked up two goals as Lynchburg led 8-6 at the half.

The third quarter was filled with aggressive defense from both sides. Spartan defenders only gave up one goal to Lombardo assisted by Rogers. York cut the deficit to 9-8 with two goals late in the period.

The Spartans kept the pressure on in the fourth, taking a 10-9 lead with 12:31 to go. Dean and Rogers scored back-to-back goals to put the Hornets back on top with 5:59 remaining, but York's Jake Hvazda and Brad Casale scored as the clock wound down to cinch the victory for the hosts.

The Hornets will open Old Dominion Athletic Conference play at Bridgewater, Saturday, March 9. The game is set for 1 p.m.
