Box Score 2 Harrisonburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's volleyball team won a close season-opening set Friday afternoon and rode that momentum to a pair of straight-set victories, starting the campaign with sweeps of Mary Baldwin and Bryn Mawr at Eastern Mennonite University's Route 42 Classic.
Senior libero Lauren Stanford led the way for Lynchburg (2-0) with 26 digs and six aces over the matches, Abbi Leeper and Disa Haugsdahl corralled double-digit kills on the day, and Erin Farina set up a team-high 35 assists.
Mary Baldwin (0-1) gave the Hornets a scare in the first set, but Lynchburg was able to take the game, 25-23. Lynchburg claimed the second easily, 25-10, and closed out the match against the Fighting Squirrels with a 25-22 victory.
The Hornets made quick work of Bryn Mawr (0-1), 25-11, 25-14, 25-16.
Lynchburg volleyball is back in action Saturday in the Route 42 Classic, this time at Bridgewater College, where they will take on Meredith at 10 a.m. and Catholic at 2 p.m.
