Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- Junior Tharon Suggs dropped 28 points Saturday afternoon but it was not enough to lead the Hornets past the Generals as University of Lynchburg men's basketball team fell to Washington and Lee 84-80.
Suggs' 28 points led all scorers as the Hornets (12-6, 7-2 ODAC) received double-digit scoring from three other starters as seniors Chance Greene and Cody Lang had 11 and 13, respectively and junior T.C. Thacker dropped 15.
Lynchburg faced an early deficit as the Hornets fell behind by as many as eight in the first half. A Lang layup at the 12:01 mark got the Hornets within one, 19-18 and then a layup from Greene gave Lynchburg its first lead of the day at 20-19 with 11:46 left. Lynchburg fell behind later in the half and the Generals (14-4, 6-3) took a commanding 53-42 lead into the half.
The Hornets climbed back into the contest and with 11:40 left in regulation, junior Israel Lockamy hit a 3-pointer to get the Hornets within two, making the score 63-61. Lynchburg went ahead after Suggs sank two free-throws to put the Hornets ahead 64-63 and after a Greene 3-pointer at the 7:48 mark, the Hornets held a 70-65 lead, their largest of the game.
After two Generals' free throws with 4:38 remaining put them ahead 74-72, Lynchburg was unable to answer and Washington and Lee came away with the 84-80 win.
The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 29 as the Hornets travel to Salem, Va. to take on the Maroons of Roanoke College in another Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup with tip-off set for 7 p.m.
