Lynchburg, Va. -- With 3 seconds left in regulation, the University of Lynchburg men's basketball team trailed by two points until junior Luke Romeo hit the game-winning 3-pointer against Virginia Wesleyan to cap off an exciting 76-74 Hornets win on Saturday afternoon. 

Romeo's late game heroics and another double-double from junior T.C. Thacker highlighted the Hornets' (8-5, 3-1 ODAC) stat sheet. Romeo finished with 16 points while Thacker put up 24 points and 11 boards for his sixth double-double of the season.

Lynchburg erased an early 10-point deficit and went into the break with a 48-44 lead. The Hornets held the lead unil the 15:45 mark in the second half when the Marlins' Jordan White hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 52. The Hornets trailed for the most part of the rest of the half. 

With 1:14 left in the contest, Thacker tied the game at 71-71 after a made a field goal. The Marlins went back ahead by two on a Daniel Spencer 3-pointer with 25 seconds on the clock. With four seconds to spare, junior Tharon Suggs passed to Romeo on the left wing, and the junior connected on the game-winning 3-pointer. 

The Marlins (10-2, 2-1) were led by Tim Fisher who led all scorers with 26 points and as a team, Virginia Wesleyan received votes in the latest D3hoops.com top 25 poll.  

The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 8 as the Hornets travel to Randolph College to take on the WildCats with tip-off slated for 8 p.m.
