Men's hoops downs Shenandoah on the road

Winchester, Va. -- Junior Tharon Suggs led all scorers with 17 points on the night as the University of Lynchburg men's basketball team downed Shenandoah handily, 80-63, Saturday afternoon. 

The Hornets (14-10, 9-6 ODAC) got behind early in the first half, but quickly climbed back into the contest and took a 14-7 lead on a 3-pointer from senior Chance Greene. Both teams continued to trade blows but Shenandoah (6-17, 3-11) tied the game at 21 with 7:42 left in the half and proceeded to take a 25-23 lead. 

SU continued to lead through the the first until Greene hit one from downtown to give Lynchburg a one point advantage with 47 seconds left. With under 30 seconds left in the half, both teams exchanged one point leads as time expired and Lynchburg took a 38-37 advantage into the locker room. 

Coming out of the half, Lynchburg struck first, and fast, as Suggs hit a 3-point jumper in the first eight seconds of the second half, giving Lynchburg a 41-37 lead with 19:52 left in regulation. Lynchburg never trailed in the second half as its largest lead swelled to 19 at the 1:30 mark after a jumper from freshman Justin Elkin on an assist from Greene.

Lynchburg had three double-digit scorers on the night with Suggs' 17 and Greene and junior Isräel Lockamy combined for 30 as they each dropped 15. Lockamy was one rebound away from a double-double with nine. 

Lynchburg men's basketball is back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at home in Turner Gymnasium as the program celebrates its seniors as the Hornets take on the Maroons of Roanoke with tip set for 7:30 p.m. Lynchburg's women take on Ferrum at 5 in the front end of the doubleheader.
