Box Score Radnor, Pa. -- Despite five goals and two assists from Kevin Rogers, University of Lynchburg's men's lacrosse team fell, 17-15, at defending national champion Cabrini Saturday afternoon in a clash of national powerhouse programs.
Nate Shafer added a Texas hat trick for the 13th-ranked Hornets (1-2), while Colin Dean added two goals and two assists. Brett Rogers chipped in a goal and three assists.
Lynchburg got out to a 2-1 lead, but the third-ranked Cavaliers (2-0) responded with three unanswered goals to lead 5-2 after the first quarter.
Trailing 8-6 at half, the Hornets battled back to tie the game, 9-9, at the 10:08 mark in the third. Lynchburg tied the game at 10, 11, 12, 13, and 15 in the second half but could never reassume the lead.
Kevin Rogers' final goal with 4:25 remaining knotted the score at 15, but Cabrini's Kohl Wesner netted his fourth goal of the contest to put the hosts up for good. The Cavaliers added an insurance goal in the final minute to ice the matchup.
Lynchburg returns home next weekend for another bout with a ranked squad, this time No. 6 York. Face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 29. The game will benefit the One Love Foundation.
