Box Score Salisbury, Md. -- University of Lynchburg's men's lacrosse team erased an early deficit but couldn't maintain momentum, dropping a 16-10 decision at No. 1-ranked Salisbury in Saturday's season-opener.
The 14th-ranked Hornets got a hat trick and an assist from Trammel Robinson and a two-goal effort from Nate Shafer, but Salisbury (2-0) controlled the game at the face-off, winning 25 of 29 contests at the X.
Lynchburg (0-1) fell behind 4-1 early, but the Hornets rallied back to tie the game at 4 by the 11:09 mark in the second quarter as Shafer kicked off the period with a pair of unanswered goals.
SU finished the first half with a 4-0 run and, after halftime, extended that streak to seven unanswered goals to break the game open.
Brett Rogers chipped in a goal and a career-best three assists for the Hornets, while Kevin Rogers scored once and made a pair of assists.
The Sea Gulls ran their win streak against Lynchburg to six games with the victory.
Lynchburg will return to action Saturday, Feb. 15 in the team's 2020 home-opener. The Hornets will play host to No. 13 Franklin & Marshall at 1 p.m.
