Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg men's basketball won its third straight game Wednesday night as the Hornets topped Hampden-Sydney 84-69 behind T.C. Thacker's third double-double in as many games.
Seniors Thacker and Tharon Suggs led the Hornets (3-0, 2-0 ODAC) to a 15 point win over the Tigers (0-2, 0-2), as both seniors put up double-digit points for the second straight game, as Thacker put up 17 and went 13-for-14 from the line and Suggs dropped 21 to lead all scorers.
The Hornets opened up the scoring with a 3-point field goal from Suggs and they never looked back. The Tigers held a one point lead for 15 seconds in the first half after a made free throw from Jack Wyatt put the Tigers up 17-16. The Hornets regained the lead after freshman Alex Fitch sank a 3-point jumper to put Lynchburg back in front 19-17.
The Tigers tied the ball game six times in the first half but were never able to take another lead. After a Ryan Clements dunk tied the game at 32, junior Dow Dunton answered with a dunk of his own to put Lynchburg up 34-32 and send the game into halftime.
Suggs opened the second half with a field goal to put the Hornets up 36-32, and Lynchburg went on to lead for the entire second half. The Tigers got within 10 with 5:50 left to play, but a Hornets stop and a made jumper from Thacker put Lynchburg up 71-59 helped seal the Lynchburg victory.
