Roanoke, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's equestrian team rode to a fourth-place finish Saturday at the Hollins University Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association show.
The Hornets totaled 32 points at the show, finishing just four points shy of team champion University of Virginia and just a point off third-place Washington and Lee.
Junior Lori Ohannessian picked up her second blue ribbon in as many weeks, winning the Open Fences division. Ohannessian also won a ribbon in Open Flat, capturing fifth.
Nine other Lynchburg riders came home with ribbons as well, highlighted by a pair of scoring rides by freshman Margaret Stell, who placed third in Intermediate Flat and fifth in Intermediate Fences.
Freshman Hannah Hillyer (Limit Flat), freshman Alexandria Russell (Limit Fences), and junior Joseph Gatti (Introductory Flat) all earned runner-up finishes in their respective divisions.
Senior Lily Rhodes took third in Limit Flat, as did senior Becky DeFino in Novice Flat.
Senior Caroline Waters rode to fourth in the Open Fences division, and sophomore Iris Moseley also took fourth, hers coming in Novice Flat. Senior Olivia Smith claimed fifth over Limit Fences.
The Hornets' equestrian program will return to action next weekend in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association format with a pair of meets in Auburn, Ala., starting Friday against the No. 1 ranked Auburn Tigers. The team will stay in the Yellowhammer State for a Saturday meet with No. 7 Fresno State.
Lynchburg will continue its IHSA season Sunday with a show at Washington and Lee.
