Lexington, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's equestrian team collected 10 ribbons on its way to a third-place result at the Washington and Lee Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association show Sunday.
Hornet riders totaled a pair of first-place finishes at the show, both in the limit division. Freshman Dakota Banks earned a blue ribbon in Limit Fences, and freshman Hannah Hillyer rode to top honors in Limit Flat.
Junior Lori Ohannessian merited a pair of ribbons in the Open division, taking fourth over Open Fences and fifth on Open Flat, and freshman Margaret Stell also won two ribbons, finishing second in Intermediate Fences and sixth in Intermediate Flat.
Senior Becky DeFino (fourth, Novice Flat) and junior Joseph Gatti (sixth, Introductory Flat) also scored points for the Hornets.
Lynchburg's team earned a total of 28 points, finishing only behind show champion Washington and Lee and reserve champion Hollins.
Lynchburg equestrian team will return to action Thursday and Friday with a pair of National Collegiate Equestrian Association meets in Dover, Del. against host Delaware State and rival Sweet Briar.
The Lynchburg program will play host to the fall edition of the Lynchburg IHSA Saturday, Oct. 30 in its next IHSA competition.
