Rustburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's equestrian team earned a reserve champion result Saturday, totaling a season-best 34 points in their home Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association show at the Liberty Mountain Equestrian Center.
Senior Madison Thomas and freshman Hannah Hillyer each took home blue ribbons for the Hornets, Thomas winning Introductory Flat and Hillyer Limit Flat.
Junior Lori Ohannessian won a pair of ribbons on the day, placing second over Open Fences and fourth on Open Flat, and freshman Margaret Stell (third in Intermediate Flat, fourth in Intermediate Fences) also won two ribbons.
Sophomore Iris Moseley laid claim to second in Novice Flat, senior Caroline Waters won third over Open Fences, freshman Dakota Banks placed third over Limit Fences, and senior Becky DeFino was third in Novice Flat.
Lynchburg finished six points behind team champion Washington and Lee and two ahead of third-place University of Virginia. It was the Hornets' second team reserve champion finish of the fall season and their highest point total of the year to date.
Lynchburg's equestrian program has another busy week ahead, heading to Martin, Tenn. for a pair of National Collegiate Equestrian Association meets Friday and Saturday against UT Martin and Texas A&M before returning to IHSA competition Sunday with a show at Virginia Tech.
