Blacksburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's equestrian team rode to a reserve champion result Saturday at the Virginia Tech Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association show.
Junior Lori Ohannessian led the way for Lynchburg as the show's high-point rider. The Burke native won the Open Flat division and took fourth place in Open Fences.
Freshman Dakota Banks also picked up a blue ribbon on the day, winning Limit Fences for his first collegiate ribbon.
Senior Madison Thomas rode to a second-place finish in Introductory Flat; and freshman Margaret Stell (Intermediate Fences), senior Becky DeFino (Novice Flat), and freshman Alexandria Russell (Limit Flat) all earned fourth-place finishes in their respective divisions. Stell also took fifth in Intermediate Flat.
As a team, the Hornets finished second to show champion Virginia Tech by just four points (VT's 35 to Lynchburg's 31) and finished a point ahead of both Hollins and Washington and Lee.
Lynchburg equestrian will return to IHSA action next weekend, October 16, with a show at Hollins University.
