Blacksburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's equestrian team rode to a tie for third place in the Virginia Tech Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association show Sunday, collecting 11 ribbons along the way.
Junior Lori Ohannessian won Lynchburg's lone blue ribbon on the day, winning the Open Flat division. Ohannessian also took fifth over Open Fences.
In the Intermediate division, freshman Margaret Stell was fourth in both her flat and fences rides. Senior Chelsea Edwards finished seventh over Intermediate Fences as well.
Freshman Hannah Hillyer and junior Lily Rhodes both took second in Limit Flat, and freshman Alexandria Russell was second in Limit Fences.
Seniors Becky DeFino and Abigail Childs both finished fourth in Novice Flat, and senior Madison Thomas placed third in Introductory Flat.
The Hornets collected 27 points total to tie University of Virginia for third place. Show champion Hollins totaled 34 points, and reserve champ Washington and Lee counted 32.
It was the fourth top-three finish for the Lynchburg IHSA team in five times out this fall. The Hornets will break for the holidays before returning to competition Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Washington and Lee IHSA.
