Box Score Fredericksburg, Va. -- Lizzie Davis scored a game-high 28 points, but University of Lynchburg's women's basketball team couldn't close a late deficit, eventually falling, 66-57, to Mary Washington on the road Monday evening.
Freshman Olivia Harris added 11 points off the bench for the Hornets, who fell behind early by a 13-6 deficit.
Lynchburg came back to tie the game at 21 early in the second following a Harris 3-pointer, but UMW rallied to take a 37-32 lead into halftime. Lynchburg trailed the rest of the way.
The Hornets trailed by 12 midway through the third after a Megan Baxter 3, forcing a Lynchburg timeout. Lynchburg battled back to cut it to 58-54 on a Davis free throw, but the Hornets couldn't get any closer. Mary Washington's Baxter knocked down a second-chance 3 on the next possession -- 37 seconds on the clock -- to seal the game.
Sarah Johnson played a career-high 29 minutes, logging six points, five rebounds, and three steals -- and Sammi Sever added seven points and five rebounds.
The Hornets (1-1) will return home for their next contest on Friday, a 6 p.m. tip with William Peace.
