Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's basketball team opened the Old Dominion Athletic Conference portion of its schedule with a resounding 87-65 win over Ferrum Wednesday night in Turner Gym.
The victory extended the Hornets' home winning streak to 10 games dating back to January.
Sammi Sever scored 20 of her 24 points before halftime, Erin Green totaled a season-high 17 points to go with six rebounds and five blocks, Olivia Harris scored 13 points off the bench, and Lizzie Davis had 11 points and a career-high nine assists.
The Hornets stormed out to a 22-5 lead in the first 6-plus minutes of the game, capped off by a pair of Taylor Gantt free throws. Lynchburg led 26-7 after the first period.
Sever scored 11 points in the second to help the Hornets maintain their comfortable lead, and Lynchburg went into halftime with a 47-20 lead.
The Panthers pulled a tad closer in the third behind Kayla Cabiness' 17-point outburst in the period -- Cabiness had a game-high 29 points -- but Green and Davis scored nine points apiece to keep the lead comfortable.
In the fourth, Mimi Oliver scored all six of her career-high in points as Lynchburg walked home with the win.
It was the Hornets' eighth-straight victory over Ferrum, a streak dating back to the 2014 season.
Lynchburg will hit the road for their next contest trying to break a different streak at Randolph-Macon; the Hornets have lost five straight to the Yellow Jackets. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in Ashland.
