Box Score Ashland, Va. -- Sammi Sever and Lizzie Davis scored in double figures, Erin Green tied the program's career blocks record, but University of Lynchburg's women's basketball team fell on the road Saturday, 73-61, to Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Randolph-Macon.
The Hornets got off to a good start. Green scored the opening basket, and Sever netted a 3 4:33 into the game to take a 7-5 lead. R-MC battled back to take a three-point lead after a quarter of play.
The Yellow Jackets led by as many as six in the second before Lynchburg charged back, retaking the lead at 22-21 after a pair of Kate Kolb free throws. Kolb's sixth point of the period put Lynchburg ahead, 26-23, but R-MC punched back with a 16-3 run to end the half that changed the complexion of the game.
Randolph-Macon opened the lead up to as much as 21 with 3:03 left in the game before the Hornets countered with a run of their own. Lynchburg finished the game on an 8-0 run to bring the tally closer.
Sever finished with a team-best 21 points, and Davis totaled 18 points, nine assists, and six rebounds. Green added six points and six rebounds, and her blocked shot at the midway point of the second period gave her 162 for her career, tying the program's record established by Caroline Wesley in 2007.
The Hornets (4-2, 1-1 ODAC) will look to get back in the win column Wednesday against crosstown rival Randolph College. First tip in Turner Gym is scheduled for 7 p.m.
