Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg men's basketball fell to Hampden-Sydney 71-70 on Tuesday night on a buzzer-beating 3-point shot.
The Hornets (3-3, 2-2 ODAC) played a heavy back-and-forth game with the the Tigers (2-4, 1-3 ODAC) as both teams matched each other shot-for-shot. The Hornets took an early 6-4 lead after a Tharon Suggs jumper, but Hampden-Sydney later tied the game and led until the 4:42 mark when senior Luke Romeo hit a 3-point shot to put Lynchburg up 26-25. The Tigers took back the lead and led 32-31 at the half.
The Tigers held their lead in the opening minutes of the half, but Suggs tied the game again at 34-34 with 18:30 left. The second half was no different than the first as both teams went back and forth again. With 4:12 left in regulation, Suggs hit a jumper to tie the game at 58-58 and then two minutes later Romeo hit another 3-pointer to put the Hornets ahead 63-61 with 2:12 to play. The Hornets led in the final minutes until Ryan Clements hit the game-winning 3-point shot.
Suggs had four assists on the night and led all scorers with 32 points. Romeo added 12 points off the bench and senior T.C. Thacker brought down 12 boards.
Lynchburg men's basketball will be back in action on Friday, February 19 as the Hornets travel to Greensboro to take on Guilford College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match-up with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
