Men's hoops ends skid with comeback win over Randolph

Box Score

Lynchburg, Va. -- With clutch shooting from its seniors, the University of Lynchburg men's basketball came from behind Sunday afternoon and ended its three-game losing streak with an 82-77 win over crosstown rival Randolph College in a non-conference matchup.

With 5:15 left in regulation, the Hornets (4-3) found themselves down by eight, but Lynchburg responded quickly with five straight points on a jump shot from senior Tharon Suggs and a 3-pointer from fellow senior Luke Romeo on back-to-back possessions to put the score at 70-67 WildCats.

At the 3:12 mark, Romeo hit another 3-pointer to get the Hornets within two, and a minute later, after a T.C. Thacker free throw, junior Dow Dunton gave the Hornets a 73-72 lead with a made layup. It was Lynchburg's sixth go-ahead shot of the second half but the first the Hornets could make stick.

The Hornets trailed for almost 14 minutes in the first half but tied the game at 31-31 after a made layup from Thacker. The Wildcats led from the end of the first half until a made layup from freshman Miles Taylor tied the game at 45. The Hornets did not have a lead until the 16:51 mark when Romeo knocked down the first of his three 3-point jumpers.

Lynchburg recieved double-digit point contributions from four players. Thacker recorded his fourth double-double of the year with 13 points and 14 rebounds, Suggs totaled 18 points, and freshmen Landon Sutton and Miles Taylor combined for 27 points in 23 minutes off the bench. Taylor scored a season-best 16 in only 13 minutes.

University of Lynchburg men's basketball will be back in action on Thursday, February 25 with a home matchup against the Roanoke College Maroons as the Hornets will celebrate Senior Day.
