Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's basketball team celebrated the program's Senior Day Saturday afternoon as the Hornets ended regular-season action with their eighth win in a row in a 75-59 romp over Washington and Lee University. The game did not count in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings.
The Hornets (8-1) never trailed in the game as Lynchburg opened up the scoring in the first minute of action on a made layup from junior Lizzie Davis. Davis went on to post a career-high 29 points to go with nine rebounds. Junior Abby Oguich had 11 and five rebounds, while fellow junior Erin Green scored 12 with five rebounds herself. Senior Maggie Quarles rounded out the offense with 13 points.
The Hornets took a 17-10 lead at the 2:55 mark after Green hit a 3-point jumper, and then Davis ended the quarter on a buzzer-beating 3 to put the Hornets up 22-14.
Lynchburg dominated early in the second quarter as it took a 37-19 lead after junior Abby Oguich made a layup with 3:26 left, giving Lynchburg its largest lead of the half. The Hornets took a 41-28 lead into the locker room at half time.
Entering the third quarter, W&L later cut the lead to 51-42 on a Lynn Johnson 3-point shot at the 4:50 mark. That was the closest the Generals came.
Late in the fourth quarter, in her first career home game, senior guard Lindsey North connected from downtown for her first collegiate points. North's 3-ball put the game on ice and Lynchburg came away with the victory.
Lynchburg now sets its sights on the upcoming ODAC tournament. The Hornets have earned a bye in Thursday's first round and will play host on Saturday against an opponent and at a time to be determined. The conference office will announce the full tournament bracket early next week.
