Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- Brett Rogers and Kyle Lewis each notched hat tricks as the No. 10-ranked University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team rolled to a 20-9 win over St. Mary's (Md.) Sunday afternoon on Shellenberger Field.
Rogers added three assists and two ground balls, and midfielder Cole Nestor led the Lynchburg defense with three caused turnovers and five ground balls. Face-off man Quintin Ricci was hot at the X, going 21-for-25 and scoring a pair of goals. Dylan Wolfe made four assists for the Hornets.
The Hornets (4-0) jumped out to a 5-2 lead after a quarter and pulled away with three unanswered goals in a 1:21 span in the second quarter. Lynchburg carried a 10-5 lead into halftime.
Leading 11-6, Rogers scored an unassisted goal with 8:53 left in the third to kick off a run of eight straight Hornet goals, capped by a pair from freshman Jake Rust to open the fourth period.
The Hornets' transition defense was fanstastic Sunday, holding the Seahawks to a 16-for-22 clearance rate.
Lynchburg will take a week hiatus before returning to Old Dominion Athletic Confernece play Saturday, March 13 at Guilford. The game will begin at 1 p.m.
