Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- Piercen Young totaled 11 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists; Jordan Parham scored a team-best 20 points; and University of Lynchburg's men's basketball team opened Old Dominion Athletic Conference play with an 80-68 victory over Eastern Mennonite Saturday afternoon.
After falling behind due to a 7-0 EMU run, the Hornets rallied to take a 14-13 lead on Young's 3-pointer at the 10:24 mark. The Royals quickly jumped back ahead, but Lynchburg retook the lead on a Parham 3. The junior quickly knocked down another triple on the Hornets' next possession, and Lynchburg led at halftime, 37-32.
Eastern Mennonite came out firing after the break with an 11-0 run to take the lead back and force a Lynchburg timeout. Mason Makovec's layup on the next Hornet possession sparked a 13-0 run for Lynchburg, and the home team never trailed again.
Makovec led Lynchburg with nine second-half points, and Trey Pittman scored eight of his 11 after intermission as well. Pittman also added nine rebounds and a block to the Hornets' cause.
Lynchburg (2-3, 1-0 ODAC) extended its win streak in conference-openers to five consecutive years, and the Hornets have won seven straight against EMU at home. Lynchburg will return to conference play Wednesday on the road with a 7:30 p.m. game at Ferrum.
