Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- Freshman Piercen Young scored a season-best 18 points to lead three University of Lynchburg men's basketball players in double figures, but it wasn't enough as the host Hornets fell to Hampden-Sydney, 89-72, Wednesday evening at home.
Trey Pittman added 13 points for Lynchburg, and Elijah Davis had 10.
The Hornets got off to a hot start as a Young layup and a couple of 3s by Davis had the home team out to an 8-4 lead. Holding a 14-7 advantage after Pittman's three-point play at the 17:28 mark in the first, the Tigers punched back with a 14-0 run and never trailed again.
Hampden-Sydney led 45-30 at the half and kept the deficit at double digits throughout the second 20 minutes. Young tallied 13 of his 18 after intermission.
Another Lynchburg freshman collected a season-best in the scoring column as Jayson Easton added eight points off the bench. Miles Taylor's four assists led the Hornets in that category, and Pittman's four rebounds topped the Lynchburg chart as well.
The Hornets (2-6, 1-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) will break for final exams before restarting the season Tuesday, Dec. 20 against The College of New Jersey in the Jay Bilas Classic at Queens University in Charlotte, N.C.
