Box Score Greensboro, N.C. -- University of Lynchburg men's basketball dropped a game to Guilford, 71-59, on the road Thursday night.
Things got off on the right foot for Lynchburg. Miles Taylor put the Hornets up by one with a layup midway through the first. Landon Sutton, starting for the first time this season, dished out an assist on the play. Tharon Suggs extended the lead with back-to-back jumpers, and his team led 15-12 with 8:00 to go before halftime.
Suggs and Taylor both accrued eight points before intermission. However, the Quakers ended the first on a 12-4 run and led 28-25 after one.
Isräel Lockamy banged a 3-pointer and tied the game immediately out of halftime. The Hornets continued draining it from beyond the arc and took a lead with a 9-0 run. By the 11:30 mark, the Hornets were up 47-42 thanks to 3s from Trey Pittman, Jordan Parham, and an old-fashioned 3-point play from Dow Dunton.
After the Quakers retied the game with their own run, Carrington Young buried a shot from downtown breaking the second tie of the final half.
The score was knotted up twice more after Young's 3, and Suggs nailed a jumper for the lead at the 6:12 mark. However, Guilford was able to keep pace and retook the lead for the final time.
Trey Pittman scored five points down the stretch, but Guilford outscored the Hornets 21-7 in the final 5:52 of the game. Despite 12 points from Suggs and 10 points from Pittman and Taylor, the Hornets dropped their second-straight game. Parham also grabbed nine points on 3-6 shooting from downtown.
The short-staffed Hornets have lost three-straight road games. However, Lynchburg (13-9, 7-6 ODAC) goes back home on Saturday, Feb. 12 for a date with Washington and Lee at 2 p.m.
