Another comeback win for men's basketball

Box Score

Lynchburg, Va. -- Three Hornets scored in double figures as University of Lynchburg men's basketball defeated Ferrum 73-68 Thursday night.

The Hornets experienced a slow start in the first half as the Panthers built a 12-4 lead. T.C. Thacker provided a spark with a layup and kickstarted an 8-0 run. Tharon Suggs knocked down a 3-pointer, and Jordan Parham and Miles Taylor sank jumpers to tie things up at 12-12 with 10:46 to play.

Ferrum was able to re-extend the lead to 38-27 at halftime thanks to 11 points from Michael Spraggins.

Isräel Lockamy sank a trio of 3-pointers early into the second half as the Hornets cut their deficit to 48-41.

Kavon James followed up Locakmy's lights-out shooting with a pair of 3 balls as well.

With the Hornets trailing by one point after Lockamy's and James' heroics, Lynchburg needed its second comeback in as many games to earn a third-straight win at home. The Hornets trailed by as many as 18 in their previous win over Hampden-Sydney and trailed by 13 against Ferrum earlier in the first half.

After a bucket from Ferrum's leading scorer, Taqqain Drummond, James made a layup on an assist from Dow Dunton to tie the game at 49-49.

Over the next 7:47 of play, Thacker scored five points and snagged an assist as his team completed the comeback. Lockamy made a layup after a quick, cross-court pass from Carrington Young and took the lead with 4:43 to go. Young tallied six assists with nine rebounds and two steals.

The lead waivered between the Panthers and Hornets for a moment until Thacker made a free throw taking the lead for good as 2:35 remained. Thacker ended the evening with 16 points, eight boards, three assists, two blocks, and a steal. Lockamy also scored 16 points on the night and he capped off the win with three made free throws securing a 73-68 win for Lynchburg.

The Hornets enjoyed 50% (7-14) shooting from deep and 51.9% (14-27) shooting from the floor in the second half to earn their second comeback win in a row.
