No. 11 men's lacrosse shuts out Randolph

Box Score

Lynchburg, Va. -- Ethan Cotter and Charlie Evans had hat tricks, the defense was airtight, and the No. 11-ranked University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team cruised to a 20-0 road win over Randolph Wednesday night.

Twelve different Hornets found the back of the net in the victory, led by three apiece from Evans and Cotter. Kyle Lewis, Jake Rust, Jack Speers, and Logan Lamon all scored twice for Lynchburg.

The Hornets' face-off team was dominant as well, winning 20 of 23 tilts at the X. Thomas DeSouza went a perfect 9-for-9 in his attempts, and the freshman also snagged a game-high six ground balls.

Graduate student A.J. Nieves got the scoring started for the Hornets just 30 seconds into the game, and Rust, Riley Mitchell, and Lewis all scored in the first 5 minutes to set the tone. Lynchburg led 8-0 after a quarter and 13-0 at halftime. Jeremy Johnson put a bow on the win with his first-career goal at the 8:23 mark in the fourth, Lynchburg's 20th score of the game.

The Lynchburg defense was dominant, holding the WildCats without a shot in the first half. Andrew Miller made the Hornets' lone save of the night in the third quarter. He teamed with Tyler Hadley, Patrick Moore, and Zach Phillips on the team's first shutout of 2022.

With the win, Lynchburg reached the 10-win plateau for the 17th-consecutive full season. The Hornets will look for win No. 11 after celebrating Senior Night Saturday at 7 p.m. against Randolph-Macon.
