No. 11 men's lacrosse blasts Bridgewater

Box Score

Lynchburg, Va. -- Ryan Kenney and Riley Mitchell each had hat tricks, Kyle Lewis dished out five assists, and the 11th-ranked University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team blew past Bridgewater, 20-8, in Wednesday night's regular-season home finale.

Lewis, who had a goal to go with his five helpers, matched the single-season program record he set in 2021 with 53 assists so far in 2022.

After a scoreless first 6 minutes, Mitchell got Lynchburg on the board at the 8:56 mark in the first with the go-ahead goal. Lynchburg never looked back. Dylan Wolfe, Kenney, Mitchell, Kenney again, and Tyler Kuni all scored in the first quarter as the Hornets took control, 6-0, after a quarter of play.

The Hornets continued to set the tone in the second, outscoring their guests by a 9-1 margin. Lewis had a goal and three assists in the second, and Jake Rust and Jack Speers both scored twice in the period.

Mitchell's goal to lead off the scoring in the third completed his hat trick, and Chris Darminio also scored in the quarter, extending the long-stick midfielder's scoring streak to five consecutive games.

Tyler Hadley dominated the first half in goal, saving four of the five Eagles shots that came his way, while Michael Kraus won 12 of his 17 face-offs and scooped a game-best 10 ground balls. Marshall Rodegast led the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Wolfe, Rust, Speers, and Brett Rogers all enjoyed multi-goal games for Lynchburg.

The Hornets (11-5, 8-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) will look to wrap up the second seed in the upcoming conference tournament Saturday at Hampden-Sydney.
