Box Score Virginia Beach, Va. -- Olivia Harris, Maddie Nimmo, and Kacey Kelly all scored in double figures to lead University of Lynchburg's women's basketball team to a resounding 74-40 win over Virginia Wesleyan Saturday afternoon on the road.
Harris led all Hornet scorers with 18 points, and the sophomore also added six rebounds and three steals to the Lynchburg cause. Nimmo chipped in 14 points, going 6-for-7 from the free throw line in her sixth-straight game reaching double figures, and Kelly collected 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.
After Harris opened the game with a 3-pointer on the opening possession, Lynchburg maintained a narrow lead for the first few minutes of play. The Hornets earned some separation later in the first, closing the period on an 11-2 run. Lynchburg made it an 18-4 barrage through the quarter break as a Brooke Cason 3 put the Hornets ahead, 27-11, with 7:38 to halftime. Lynchburg led 39-22 at intermission.
Nimmo carried the Hornets through the second half, scoring 11 of her 14 in the final two quarters to pad the victory.
The Lynchburg defense was stifling all 40 minutes as it held VWU to a frigid 24.6 percent shooting from the field, including an 0-for-10 mark from behind the arc. The Hornets also held their opponents to just one assist.
Lynchburg (4-11, 3-6 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) returns home Wednesday evening at 7 for a conference game against Ferrum.
