Box Score Danville, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's basketball team fell on the road Wednesday evening by a 53-45 score to Old Dominion Athletic Conference newcomer Averett.
Alex Fitch collected 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench to lead the Hornets' way, while Miles Taylor added 12 points. Piercen Young totaled seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds for Lynchburg's cause.
After going back and forth early, Lynchburg mounted the first run of the midweek game. The Hornets' 7-0 run early in the first half gave the visitors a 13-6 advantage, but it didn't last. Averett rallied back to tie the contest at 26 apiece headed into the halftime break.
Lynchburg went cold in the second half. The Hornets were 0-for-11 from 3-point territory and shot just 29 percent from the field (9-for-31) in the second 20 minutes, while Averett did just enough to pull away. The Cougars started the half with a 12-2 run and hung onto the lead the remainder of the way.
Jordan Lewis put in a game-best 17 points for AU, and Bryson McLaughlin had a double-double off the bench with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Hornets (4-13, 1-7 ODAC) hit the road again Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. game at Washington and Lee.
