Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg women's basketball battled tough with Guilford College on Wednesday evening but fell 83-82.
The Hornets shot a blistering 55.6% (15-27) from 3 and set a program-record with 15 makes from downtown. Olivia Harris, Macey Mullins, and Ashley Vandergrift all made four shots from beyond the arc.
Lynchburg came out and made four of its first five 3-point attempts including a trio from Mullins. She made eight-consecutive 3s without missing dating back to a 5-5 performance from deep against N.C. Wesleyan.
The Hornets shot 9-14 (64.3%) from downtown in the first half and carried a 43-36 advantage into the break.
The Hornets scored eight-straight points to open the third quarter and built their largest lead at 51-36 with 3s from Harris and Mullins. However, the Quakers stormed back in the third quarter with their longest scoring run, and Guilford entered the final quarter with a 63-55 lead.
Vandergrift made two of her four deep balls in the fourth quarter and helped Lynchburg retake the lead with 5:14 to play.
Maddie Nimmo found Jayda Chambers twice in short order late in the game to maintain the lead, but a late layup from Guilford's leading scorer, Lindsay Gauldin, put the game away for the Quakers with nine seconds remaining.
Harris dropped 22 for her second 20-point performance of the year. Mullins contributed 14 and Vandergrift had 12.
Lynchburg shot 55.6% from deep with 15 makes. It marked their best game percentage-wise since shooting 57.1% (4-7) against Emory & Henry on Mar. 6, 2021.
