Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team earned a draw with Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday afternoon in a rematch of the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference title match.
Jade Lecklider made six saves in the draw, and the Hornets submitted their fifth clean sheet of the season.
The Hornets drew two corner kicks in the match, and both came in the first half. Lynchburg's first corner in the 9th minute led to a header from Haleigh Casey, but a Marlin defender deflected it away from the near post.
In a tale of two halves, the Hornets drew their two best scoring opportunities near the end of the first. Savannah Harper and Lacey Garner took shots on frame, but Rachel Quigley made both saves for the Marlins.
In the second half, the Marlins earned eight corner kicks, but only three resulted in shots.
The Marlins earned their fifth corner of the day on the most-threatening shot of the afternoon from either team. Alaina Altson ripped a shot destined for the back of the net from outside the box, but Lecklider rose up and punched the ball over the crossbar for her third save of the day.
The Marlins took the ensuing corner and settled the ball in front of the net. The Marlins took three shots quickly in succession after the corner, but Lecklider saved the first, the defense blocked the second, and Rachel Wilson sent the third one wide ending Virginia Wesleyan's scoring threat.
In the 90th minute, Victoria Newman sent a low shot on net, but Quigley made the fourth and final save of the day on the play.

The Hornets have 11 points and trail Washington and Lee (14 pts.), Virginia Wesleyan (13 pts.), and Roanoke (13 pts.) in the standings.
