Greensboro, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team defeated Guilford 2-0 on the road Saturday evening to remain unbeaten in conference play.

The Hornets scored both goals unassisted, outshooting the Quakers 18-8. 13 of Lynchburg's shots were on frame.

In the opening minutes, three of the Hornets' shots forced Guilford goalkeeper Ady Franken to make saves. The Quakers kept the clean sheet until the 16th minute when Meghan Lauder broke open the scoring.

Scoring her team-leading fifth goal of the season, the senior forward stayed onside and received a ball that trickled past Guilford's back line. With time and space on the run, she clipped the post with a low-rolling shot that bounced into the net.

Lynchburg maintained its 1-0 lead through the first half, holding Guilford to just one shot going into the break.

Starting the second half, the Hornets stacked four corners without finding the net. 

In the 62nd minute, Lynchburg found its breakthrough to add insurance on the scoreboard. 

Freshman midfielder Lauren Orner scored her first-collegiate goal in a counter-attack opportunity. With Guilford's offense camped in the attacking third, the Hornets forced a turnover and turned on the jets to find the nylon for a second time. 

The Quakers rattled off seven shots in the second half, three of which resulted in saves by senior goalkeeper Jade Lecklider.

Lynchburg extinguished the Quakers' final opportunities deep into the final minutes, earning its 5th shutout of the season.

The Hornets will put their eight-game unbeaten streak on the line on Wednesday, Oct. 14 as Randolph makes the short trip across town to Shellenberger Field.
