Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's soccer team downed Ferrum 2-1 Wednesday afternoon.
Both squads concentrated all their scoring in the opening 20 minutes beginning with Enrique Morales' first goal of the season. He put the ball into the back of the net on an assist from Carter Averette in the 8th minute off a corner kick.
Ferrum netted the equalizer shortly after in the 13th minute beating Thomas Viscuso for only the fifth time in conference play.Â
The Hornets quickly responded on another set piece. Luke Mega sent a free kick in from in front of the corner flag. Zach Whelan got his head on it and sent the ball ricocheting quickly into the back of the net. It was Whelan's first goal of the year, but the senior scored six times a season ago.Â
The scoring settled down before halftime, and despite 12 shots from the Hornets in the second half, neither team found the back of the net again.Â
Viscuso made five saves in total on the night earning his 11th win in goal.Â
Lynchburg (11-2-2, 5-1-1) hosts Guilford for its Senior Night and Homecoming match on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
