Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team defeated Shenandoah 2-1 on Homecoming Saturday extending its unbeaten streak to 10 matches.
Lynchburg won its third-consecutive match and occupies third place in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings as the regular season's final week approaches.
In the opening minutes, Victoria Newman broke down multiple defenders to maneuver down the sideline. The senior winger found empty space to place a cross into the box allowing Zoe Villarreal to tuck the opening goal away.
Both squads earned ample possession in the first half, but Shenandoah flipped the script with a 25th minute equalizer by Peyton Lubinsky.Â
Shenandoah sent numbers down the field as Kirklyn Wilson found her teammate open at the top of the 18-yard box. Lubinsky's shot lofted over Jade Lecklider, and the score stayed locked at 1-1 through the remainder of the half.
Coming out of the break, Lynchburg injected pace into its offense to set up shop in the attacking third.
In the 48th minute, midfielder Morgan Oliver found space to flick the ball over the defense along the end line. The freshman fired the shot from outside the box, and the ball tracked over the keeper and snuck into the net for Lynchburg's second goal.
Oliver has scored twice in the last two matches marking her first two collegiate goals.
Shenandoah hurled nine shots to Lynchburg's three in the second half, though Jade Lecklider produced five saves to protect the lead. Lecklider finished with seven total saves.
Lynchburg bled out the final minutes of possession to clinch another three points in ODAC play.Â
Lynchburg travels to Randolph-Macon on Wednesday, Oct. 25 in Ashland, Va. for the final road contest of the regular season. Â
