Lexington, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's soccer team fell to Washington and Lee on the road Wednesday night in the regular-season finale.
The No. 23-ranked Hornets had a chance to secure the regular-season title for a second-straight year with a win but conceded four times to the Generals.
Weyimi Agbeyegbe got the Generals on the board in the 6th minute on their second shot of the game. Manzi Shalita had a look at an equalizer in the 32nd minute but hit the crossbar with his attempt. Carter Averette had another look at goal, but W&L's keeper Will Joseph made the save.
The Generals doubled their lead before halftime with a penalty kick with 45 seconds left on the clock.
Lynchburg played a man-down in the second half after Pat Figaro received a red card in the 54th minute shortly after Washington and Lee's third goal.
The Hornets were able to get six shots off despite only having nine field players, but the Generals tacked on a final goal with less than eight minutes to play and sealed the 4-0 victory. It was Lynchburg's largest margin of defeat since October 2019 also at the hands of Washington and Lee. The Generals were the No. 6-ranked team at the time.
Despite the loss Wednesday, Lynchburg earned the No. 2 seed in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament. The quarterfinals begin Saturday, Oct. 28 when the Hornets take on Hampden-Sydney on Shellenberger Field in a rematch of the 2022 ODAC quarterfinals.
