Lexington, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team conceded late against Washington and Lee in a draw on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets visited the No. 18-ranked Generals for a pivotal conference matchup with the Generals one point ahead of Lynchburg in the standings.
Lynchburg earned a flurry of shots in the early going, but all three shots before the 18th minute were off target.
The Hornets did not take another shot after Victoria Newman fired one in the 17th. The Generals flipped the script taking the next six shots before halftime. Jade Lecklider saved the two shots that W&L put on frame however, and it was a scoreless draw after 45 minutes.
On Lynchburg's second corner kick of the second half in the 69th minute, the ball ricocheted off the back of the head of a Washington and Lee defender.
Lynchburg led for just over 20 minutes after the own goal. However, Helen Otteni stepped up as the hero for the Generals in the 89th minute, capitalizing on a Hornet turnover in their own defending third.
Lynchburg is 1-0-2 against the Generals in the last three matchups. The Hornets are a point behind the Generals in the standings with 10 and three points behind first-place Roanoke.
Lynchburg (7-3-1, 3-0-1 ODAC) hosts Virginia Wesleyan for another crucial conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m.
