Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's basketball team dropped its regular-season finale Saturday afternoon, a 69-56 decision to visiting Bridgewater. The Hornets will carry the No. 9 seed into the upcoming Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament.
Maddie Nimmo led the Hornets with 19 points and six assists, and Ashley Vandergrift (11 points) and Olivia Harris (10 points) joined Nimmo in double figures. Harris had a team-best seven rebounds.
Bridgewater led the entire first half until the buzzer, when Jayda Chambers banked in a shot to put the Hornets up 33-32. The Eagles took control early in the third period, however, and held onto the narrow lead until the late going, when they extended it to double digits.
The BC defense held Lynchburg to just 17-for-64 shooting from the field, and the Eagles got 20 points and 10 rebounds from Abby Freeman.
Lynchburg celebrated Senior Day with its two members of the class of 2023 -- Chambers and Sarah Johnson -- prior to the game.
The Hornets (7-18, 6-12 ODAC) will head to eighth-seeded Ferrum for conference tournament play in first-round action. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
