Rustburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg National Collegiate Equestian Association team fell to Sweet Briar in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship 6-3.
Rainy weather forced the teams to duel it out on the flat first before fences. The flat squad for Lynchburg tied the Vixens 2-2 and tied one point.
Junior Kelley McCormick had the high score of the meet with a 182 (93-89). Sophomore Lucy Metlzer won her point with a 158 (78-80). Freshman Abby Zemp tied her point with a 170 (84-86).

However, the Vixens took four of five points over fences to clinch the ECAC title. Zemp scored a 170 (84-86) for Lynchburg's only point over fences.
The Hornets cleaned up the all-tournament awards with McCormick winning the tournament's most outstanding performer award as well as being named to the flat all-tournament team. Zemp was also named to both the all-tournament flat and fences team.
Director of Equestrian Phillip Williamson was named the ECAC coach of the year.
The Hornets will now await seeding for the NCEA Championships in Ocala, Fla. beginning Thursday, April 14.
