Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team scored a season high against Virginia Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.
The 12th-ranked Hornets took down the Marlins 24-2 with 17 different goal scorers.
The Hornets scored eight goals in the first and second quarters. Riley Frankel and Henri Marindin closed out the opening quarter with their first-career goals both in exciting fashion.
After Gabe Menchaca scored on an assist from Ian McCarthy, Frankel won the ensuing faceoff, scooped up the ground ball, and sprinted towards net. He found the back of the net just six seconds after Menchaca.
With less than a minute left in the first, Marindin cleared midfield, took his first-career shot, but missed. He picked up the ground ball, shot again, and his shot was saved again. He collected another ground ball and took a third shot finally beating the VWU goalie for his first-career score.
Jake Rust scored two-straight goals to open the second quarter on an unreleasable man-up opportunity drawn by Finn Schmidt. Spencer Vandenberg tallied the third goal during the two-minute man-up opportunity. Robert Kirkland scored a man-up goal later in the period.
Conner Harlacher scored his first-career goal to open the second half and opened the fourth quarter with another score.
Kayden Hinchey closed out the game with a man-up goal. Overall, the Hornets scored six goals on four man-up chances marking their most man-up goals in a single game on the season.
Frankel went 13-16 (81.3%) in faceoffs, and Tyler Hadley, Patrick Moore, and Chase Wesley all made four saves each.
Lynchburg (10-5, 6-1 ODAC) plays its final road-regular season game of the year against Guilford on Wednesday, April 26 at 6 p.m.
