Salem, Va. -- University of Lynchburg women's soccer sophomore Madelyn Boyce scored in the 26th minute of Lynchburg's 1-0 win over Grove City Friday afternoon.
Savannah Harper assisted on Boyce's goal, and Jade Lecklider played all 90 minutes to earn the clean sheet.
Lecklider did not have to make any saves as the Hornets coasted to their first shutout of the year. Lynchburg shut out their opponents 16 times during their ODAC championship season in 2022.
Lynchburg outshot the Wolverines 5-1 ahead of Boyce's first-career goal. Boyce hit the crossbar during an early barrage of shots from Lynchburg in the opening 10 minutes.
After a free kick from the sideline, Ida Swisher centered the ball with a pass to Haleigh Casey. The 2022 All-American connected with Harper, who found Boyce for a the left-footed finish.
In the second half, Grove City only mustered up two more shots as the Hornets secured the 1-0 victory. Both teams earned four corner kicks on the day, and the Hornets outshot the Wolverines 13-3 overall.
Lynchburg (1-0) plays Penn St.-Harrisburg at 5 p.m. in Salem, Va. on Saturday, Sept. 2.
