Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's soccer team secured a win over Greensboro late Friday afternoon. 

Freshmen Noah Mathew and Fischer Daniel netted their first-collegiate scores, and Luke Mega added another goal with a second-half penalty kick in the 3-0 win.

The Hornets possessed the ball nearly the whole first half but were unable to score until the 39th minute whe the Hornets lined up for their second corner of the day. Liam Lovell sent it in, Josh Auger settled it, then Mathew finished it for the 1-0 lead.

At the beginning of the second half, Lynchburg continued to dominate the field. In the 59th minute, Mega scored his team-leading third goal of the season and second penalty of the season. 

But Lynchburg was not done yet. Fischer Daniel put the final nail in the coffin capitalizing off a Greensboro mistake in the 86th minute, securing a 3-0 lead. 

The Hornets not only led by a wide margin in the scoring column, but they also outshot Greensboro 25 to 2, with a total of 11 corner kicks. Greensboro's goalkeeper Christian Del Cid Portillo made three saves, while Lynchburg's Thomas Viscuso recorded a clean sheet with no saves required. Lynchburg's 25 shots are more than double its second-highest total from the year.

The Hornets have shut out their opponents in all four of their wins and matched their shutout total from a season ago.

Lynchburg (4-1) is right back at it on Saturday, Sept. 16 when the Hornets face off with Hood at 3 p.m. on Shellenberger Field.
