Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's volleyball team nearly shut out Trinity (D.C.) in their neutral-site matchup at Randolph College Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets only allowed 11 points during their 3-0 victory over the Tigers.
The first set saw Lynchburg establish their dominance right from the start. Princess Salifou notched two kills to secure the 25-3 victory in the first set. Lynchburg's efficient attacking and solid serving proved too much for the Tigers to handle. Landon Spotts put down two kills and four service aces in the second set resulting in a 25-4 victory for Lynchburg.
The third set followed a similar pattern as Lynchburg maintained their momentum. Ava Meinhardt led the way with four kills as the Hornets coasted to a 25-4 victory. Lynchburg's offense was firing on all cylinders, boasting its fourth-best hitting percentage in a single game in program history at 0.511. Spotts and Sydney Phillips led the way with six kills each. Defensively, Lynchburg was solid, with six players coming up with multiple digs and only allowing three kills from the Tigers. Mya Green dished out 10 assists and five aces. Morgan Clarke also served up five aces.
Lynchburg (3-4, 0-1 ODAC) returns to conference play when the Hornets travel to Ashland, Va. for a 7 p.m. match with Randolph-Macon on Wednesday, Sept. 20.
